Elizabeth Bygler

Elizabeth has been an artist for most of her life.  She majored in art at Brooklyn NY’s  premiere Midwood  High School, The Pratt Institute, The Fashion Institute of Technology  (SUNY), and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.  She has studied with numerous  well know n artists such as Wolf  Kahn (pastel) , Charles Sovek (oil masterclasses), Skip Lawrence  (watercolor), Joe Mayer (watercolor), Thomas Rowe (oil), Lisa Scheer (sculpture).

During her time at St. Mary’s College she took gallery management courses with Jonathan Ingersoll, helping to organize, manage, frame, and hang one of the largest standing college owned art collections in the country.  These studies held her in good stead during her two tenures as gallery manager at The  North End Gallery in Leonardtown Maryland. The “North End” is a co-operative gallery of 32 artists, that has been operating profitably for 22 years.  While acting as manager two times, for a total of two years Elizabeth was responsible for all the operations of the gallery including the arranging, and hanging of shows on a monthly basis.  She designed and implemented the hanging system that the gallery uses to this day.  She is still an active participant in the galley.  Elizabeth has spent the past 9 years teaching oil painting in her studio and elsewhere.  She has formed a non profit group of her students  named “The Color and Light Society”. It has a 501C3 status, and allows  emerging artists to have a venue. She is the current president of the group. They hang about 6 shows  a year in various non profit venues and Elizabeth holds classes that teach the members how to comprehensively hang a beautiful show that highlights  all of the art work to equal advantage.
